Journal Entry #1

I sit, my first journal entry page unwritten, though I don’t know where to start. Mountain Island is a beautiful place, and along with it beautiful people and animals. Today I learned this while hunting with my father.

We left in the morning, early, my first experience doing this may as well be the best. I was really looking forward to it. We dressed, and ate swiftly, barely catching the first light of the day as we grabbed our bows and went our towards the beach. Hunting on Mountain Island, he told me, is very different from hunting anywhere else. Guns are banned, and bows are much harder to hunt with. The Island is so diverse with animals, there is no main goal on what to kill. I pondered this as we walked further down the mountainside, quietly. The atmosphere was peaceful, but I had to remember, I was still doing a job. The people were counting on me to bring home food, and I was determined to.

It was about twenty minutes later, after we reached the edge of the forrest, when we spotted our goal. We spotted a large elk. I gawked at the beast and thought it must be the most majestic animal God had ever put on earth. We snuck up quietly, veering off into the wind. I was disappointed when my dad gave me the signal to stay there, but I also enjoyed watching him do his work, so I obeyed, and watched him. It seemed like an awkward climb, but once in position, he gracefully pulled back, let go, and bam.

It took awhile for the victory to get through my head. But now I am proud of the experience I had today.

Declaration of Independance

We, the people of the new kingdom of Mountain Island, declare our Independence from the fast growing, technology driven, society in which we currently live. We have nothing but a want for a much simpler, rustic lifestyle. We the people cannot function under these fast paced lifestyles forced upon us. We have no need for modern equipment, whether it be firearms to gather food, or computers for information, because we wish to live in the old ways. The ways of our ancestors.

We wish to turn away from all beneficial, but unnecessary technology.

We wish to run our society in a natural way.

We wish to learn and experience more through the absence of modern technology.

We wish for a simpler lifestyle.

The reasons for the formation of our new society are apparent. We wish to provide a much simpler lifestyle with the absense of technology, and wish to be independant from the confusion that today’s lifestyles cause.

Journal Entry #2

Today, I helped prepare the feast. How did I keep up with it? I have no idea. In the middle of the day, all of the women and some men got together to start preparing the meal for the day, for the entire community. I’m not going to lie, I was stressed. How could we count on the men to get food? What if they don’t? It’s not like we have any modern technology to help us, so if they don’t catch food, we don’t eat. This is what was running through my head especially today as I sat and started to prepare the fire, but I worked dilligently, helping when I was called to help. The community seems small, but when preparing food for all, there always seems like a lot more people than there should be. I worked all morning, skipping breakfast. The weekdays are usually filled with too many things to do.

I was exited when I saw the men coming up the mountainside, crawling like little ants it seemed, as the older men seemed to struggle with their victories. It didn’t get loud until they arrived to us, with boasting voices, all howling about who shot what first. When the rush was finally over, and the meat cooked, we sat. I was proud of my hard work, but as my back aches now, I know that I cannot yet wait for another weekend to come.

Persuasive Letter

Dear Friend,

I can’t believe you’re not already living here on Mountain Island! It is the best place to live, for all types of people and animals. Why? I don’t even know where to begin. From the mountains dressed in snow, to the sandy beaches and thick forests, Mountain Island is the best place to stay for anybody living with somebody that has a different preference for weather and living quarters.

No offense, but you’re home at the moment is (to put it semi-nicely) utterly disgusting to the environment, other people, and the health of all things around you. How can you live like this? Living here, on Mountain Island is so much more relaxing. The passion the citizens here have for a clean environment is a strong one, and I think you deserve to be apart of this joyous and refreshing air. Mountain Island is ruled under strict laws that ban the use of modern technology. This helps one unite with nature and grow with knowledge and experience, instead of hustling around with high tech electronics, which inevitably make life much more difficult. So come now! It’s really the better and healthier place to live.

Daily Itinerary

On Mountain Island, we do not have a schedule set in stone. We merely do what is needed, when it is needed. Days are varied by what type of profession you are in as well. The following is an average schedule on Mountain Island.

7:00 a.m. – Wake up

8:00 a.m. – Eat breakfast

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. – Go to work if needed (Hunter, Baker, Blacksmith, ect.)

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Break

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Prepare/Eat lunch and dinner as a community

5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Prepare for next day

Journal Entry #3

I woke up earlier than planned today, but it didn’t matter, I was ready for the day, and today was a weekend. I rolled out of bed willingly, thinking of all the things that needed to be done. It didn’t seem like much, but at the same time, there was everything to do, and living here, without the help of technology, anything can pop up. Though at the same time, today was refreshing, and I had a unique experience.

I skipped breakfast to go to the fishing hole before 9:00 a.m., wishing to eat lunch early. It was more peaceful than stressful, and the view was spectacular. Mountain Island is exactly what it’s called, a mountain-island. I could see the ocean blend with the sky just a few miles off, and as I walked further and arrived to my destination, I saw something much more beautiful. Off to the left, the maple leaves formed a bed, while the mountains stood tall, dressed in a beautiful white. It was today when I had really appreciated this, and decided to further explore the beautiful and new land. It was about thirty-minutes after I began walking aimlessly through the trees, enjoying the cool weather, when I had spotted it. A wolf. It sounds lame, yes, but the beauty of it was overwhelming, and the passion that the island has for these beautiful creatures astounds me. The moment was over way too soon, but I will remember it as long as I’m here.

It is now evening. I had found luck at the fishing hole, and ate a plentiful lunch. It was frustrating at first, yes, but the entire fresh and new environment has been keeping me at peace. Today was relaxing, as weekends usually are, but this weekend will be especially remembered.

Governing Body

The governing body of Mountain Island is made up of 7 councilmen. In Mountain Island we believe in the power of the odd number. Having 7 members in the governing body this eliminates the ability for a even split on an event. The council is headed by Matthew Reeves. His second and third command consist of Andrea Dippre and Tammy Fisher-Memida. When a problem arises in our society it is taken to the council where it is analyzed and finally voted on by all its members. Then the decision is documented in the legal books and is made known to the public.

Utopian Motto and Seal

Our Utopian Motto is “do it the hard way” because we believe that Mountain Island should look away from modern technology and equipment, and expand knowledge and experience by surviving without technological advancement.

List of Rules

1.) No littering. We strongly believe that our society should be a healthy environment for animals and people alike.

2.) No murdering. Our society disagrees with unjustly taking another man’s life, and we feel our people should be under safe rule.

3.) No stealing. We believe that everybody in our utopia has the right to have his own property secure.

4.) No cursing. We believe in a respectful society.

5.) No smoking. The health of the society is important to us.

6.) No modern technology. We believe this will simplify life, and make it more fulfilling.

7.) If a tree is cut down, another must take its place. We are aiming for an environmentally healthy society.

8.) An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. We believe that some punishments of crimes in other countries are too lenient, and we want our people to respect our laws.

9.) No drug use. Mind altering substances only hinder the advancement of a society.

10.) No homosexuals. A society cannot grow when it is based around same sex couples.
